Corporate Social Responsibility Policy Example

Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) aims to contribute to societal goals of a philanthropic, activist or charitable nature or by engaging in or support volunteering or ethically oriented practices.

While we run our business based on the expectations of our diverse stakeholders, we also understand the importance of contributing to making the world a better place. At (Name of the organisation) we strongly believe in the Triple Bottom Line concept wherein the company contributes to building economic, social and environmental imperatives.
Our CSR Policy aims to the betterment of a sustainable society and this commitment is ingrained in our core values. We aim to demonstrate these through our actions governed by the CSR policy. This policy applies to our Company and its subsidiaries and may also refer to our suppliers and partners

Scope Of The Policy

Business Ethics And Transparency

  • We will conduct our operations in an open, honest and ethical manner
  • We will ensure that all our operations are legitimate
  • We undertake to keep every partnership and collaboration open and transparent
  • We recognise the importance of protecting all our human, financial, physical, informational, social, environmental and reputational assets
  • We will advise our partners, contractors and suppliers of our CSR Policy and will work with them to achieve consistency with the policy
  • We are committed to measuring, auditing and tracking the performance of its CSR programs

Environment Health And Safety

  • We are committed to provide a safe and healthy work environment and will not compromise the safety of any individual
  • We recognise that environmental pollution prevention, biodiversity and resource conservation are key to a sustainable environment and will integrate the same into our business practices
  • All employees and contractors are responsible and accountable for contributing to a safe working environment, for fostering safe working attitudes and for operating in an environmentally responsible manner

Stakeholder Relations

  • At (Name of the Company) we are proud to apply fair labour practices, while respecting the local laws
  • We do not engage or tolerate unlawful workplace conduct, including intimidation, discrimination or harassment
  • We do not tolerate abuse of Human Rights nor conduct activities that can be labelled as abuse

Governance

(Name of the Company) will undertake its CSR activities as approved by the CSR Committee, through a registered trust or society. The Company will assist the CSR Committee to identify the areas of CSR activities, programs and execution of initiatives as per the guidelines defined.The surplus funds if any arising out of the CSR activities will not form part of the business profit of the Company. The surplus funds will be used in the development of CSR projects in the following year. It will be mandatory for (Name of the Company) to  disclose its CSR Policy, programs/projects undertaken and the expenditure made towards CSR activity in the Annual Report.

Responsibilities Of The CSR Committee

  • To formulate and recommend to the Board of Directors the CSR Policy and indicating activities to be undertaken
  • To decide the location(s) of the CSR activities
  • To recommend the budget required to undertake the CSR programs
  • The Company will lay down organisational supervision and oversight requirements before release of the funds
  • The Company will review the project proposal and monitor the implementation of the project on a regular basis
  • There will be physical verification of the project status and reports shared with the CSR Committee and management on a quarterly/once in 6 months/annual basis

Budget And Expenditure

(Name of the Company) shall allocate a budget towards each of the CSR activities falling within the purview of the objectives of this policy. The CSR expenditure shall include all actual expenditures including contributing to corpus or on projects or programs relating to CSR activities recommended by the CSR Committee and approved by the Board of Directors.

Volunteering

We encourage our employees to volunteer through programs organised either internally or externally. We may sponsor volunteering activities by other organisations as the CSR Committee deems fit.

Scope Of Activities

The below mentioned list covers some of the areas that Companies can adopt as part of their CSR Policy. This is an indicative but not an exhaustive list

Education

  • Academic education by way of financial assistance to Primary, Middle and Higher Secondary Schools
  • Adult literacy to people falling under BPL
  • Awareness programs involving the girl child
  • Special attention on education, training and rehabilitation of the physically/mentally challenged children/people

Water Supply

  • Installation/Repair of Hand Pumps/Tube Wells
  • Rain water harvesting schemes
  • Proper use of drinking water

Health Care

  • Conducting awareness camps on social evils such as alcoholism, smoking, etc
  • Child and mother care
  • Diet and nutrition
  • Blood donation camps
  • Fully equipped mobile medical vans
  • Construction of hospital and dispensary facilities

Environment

  • Pollution control
  • Green Belt development
  • Tree plantation
  • Animal care

Social Empowerment

  • Training rural youth for self employment
  • Training by agricultural experts to assist in farming techniques
  • Organising training programs for women aimed at sustenance such as tailoring, pickling, etc
  • Village electricity and utilisation of solar energy
  • Care of senior citizens

Sports And Culture

  • Promotion of sports and cultural activities at the State and National level
  • Promotion/Development of sports activities in the nearby villages by conducting tournaments in sports such as football, kabaddi, kho-kho, cricket, etc
  • Sponsorship of cultural events to restore Indian culture and values

Infrastructure Support

Could be in the form of construction, repair or extension of the following

  • Bus stops
  • Sulabh Souchalya
  • Park/Sports Complex
  • Old Age Homes

Amendments To The Policy

The Board of Directors on its own and/or on the recommendation of the CSR Committee, can amend its policy as and when it deems fit. Any or all provisions of the CSR Policy will be subject to revision/amendment in accordance with the regulations on the subject as maybe issued from relevant statutory authorities, from time to time.
