Workforce Planning
Workforce planning refers to the process an organization uses to analyze its workforce and determine the steps it must take to prepare for future staffing needs. It ensures that the company has current and future access to the human capital it needs to perform effectively. It involves identifying current and future personnel needs and exploring the most appropriate and cost-effective methods to recruit and retain these individuals.
The process is also known as strategic workforce planning as it makes sure that the right person is in the right job at the right moment. According to Evers (2014), strategic workforce planning is becoming increasingly important for a number of reasons such as; Demographic changes, Cost Reduction, Flexibility and Talent Management.
