Externship

Read Time: 1 Mins

    What is an externship?

Externships are unpaid, short, informal on-site work/study experiences that give college students real-life exposure to career options and opportunities.

An externship provides students a platform to learn about more career possibilities and take courses to develop skill sets for their desired jobs. This also helps them understand the wide career options available and to make decisions based on their preferences.

They provide unique networking opportunities with professional, academic, or educational organizations. They tend to offer a more generalized skill set and allow one to observe regular tasks and responsibilities that can be applied to one’s desired career field.

Externships are short-term opportunities for students to job shadow career professionals.

Basically, they are training programs provided by colleges or universities as part of a course of study taken by private businesses. Externships are good for experiential learning, as they enhance one’s opportunity to observe, learn, try, and experience.
