Employees Provident Fund Organization (EPFO)

    The EPFO that is the Employees’ Provident Fund organization is one of the world’s largest social security organizations. It is a financial body that provides social security to salaried employees of India.  EPF is the main retirement benefits scheme under the Employees’ Provident Funds and Miscellaneous Provisions Act, 1952 which is managed by EPFO.

    The Employees’ Provident Fund came into existence with the declaration of the Employees’ Provident Funds Ordinance on the 15th November 1951. It was replaced by the
    Employees’ Provident Funds Act, 1952. The Act is now referred to as the Employees’ Provident Funds & Miscellaneous Provisions Act, 1952.

    EPFO operates three schemes — EPF Scheme 1952, Pension Scheme 1995 (EPS), and Insurance Scheme 1976 (EDLI).
