Your CTC is not what you receive. Here is what happens between the number on your offer letter and your bank account.
Employer EPF (12% of basic, up to ₹3,000/month) and Gratuity (4.81% of basic/year) are subtracted from fixed CTC. What remains is your Gross Salary — any variable or bonus pay is then added on top.
Employee EPF (12% of basic, up to ₹3,000/month), Professional Tax (max ₹2,500/year), and Income Tax are deducted from Gross to arrive at your in-hand.
At ₹10 LPA new regime with no variable pay, that is ₹75,522/month — 90.6% of CTC, with zero income tax via the Section 87A rebate.
Budget 2026 made no changes to slab rates. The new regime continues to offer zero tax up to ₹12L taxable income.
LPA stands for Lakh Per Annum — the standard way annual salaries are quoted in India. ₹10 LPA means ₹10,00,000 per year or ₹83,333 per month gross. Your actual monthly in-hand is always lower after deductions.
CTC is what the company spends on you. In-hand is what reaches your bank account. The gap includes Employer EPF, Gratuity, Employee EPF, Professional Tax and Income Tax. For ₹10 LPA under the new regime, the in-hand is approximately ₹77,922/month — 93.5% of CTC.
The new regime is better for most salaried employees in FY 2026-27 because taxable income up to ₹12 lakh attracts zero tax. The old regime wins only if total deductions — HRA exemption, 80C, 80D, and home loan interest — exceed approximately ₹3.75 lakh per year.
Both employee and employer contribute 12% of basic salary. The statutory wage ceiling was raised from ₹15,000 to ₹25,000/month effective 17 September 2026 (Gazette S.O. 5109(E)), so the maximum mandatory contribution from each side is now ₹3,000/month (₹36,000/year). The employer’s 12% splits as 3.67% to EPF and 8.33% to the Employee Pension Scheme.
No. Professional Tax is state-specific. Maharashtra levies ₹2,500/year, Karnataka ₹2,400/year, and Tamil Nadu and Punjab also levy up to ₹2,500/year. Delhi, Gujarat, Haryana, Rajasthan and UP levy nil professional tax.
