What is a secondment?

Secondment signifies the temporary movement of an employee to another job role within the organization or to a different organization.

The concept implies that the employee will return to their original organization but not necessarily to the same role. Their new position can also be in another department in the company or with the host organization.

This exchange can be within the same company or with an external partner, such as a client or supplier. Simply put, it is like an employee swapping for the better good of the company as well as the individual.

Secondments allow employees to gain new skills, experience different work environments, and expand their career options. They are often used for bigger projects that require specific expertise, to foster better collaboration between teams, and to bolster organizational growth.
