Organization Development (OD) is the process that helps organizations build their capacity to change and achieve greater effectiveness by developing, improving, and reinforcing strategies, structures, and processes. Organizational development is therefore something that is important to ensure effective growth and longevity.

Characteristics of Organization Development

• Organization Development is a planned change. It excludes spontaneous changes made by organizations from time to time.
• OD is a long-range affair. It takes months to implement the plan of OD.
• The OD activities are initiated, implemented, and supervised by the top management.
• OD primarily focuses on changing the culture and structure of an organization for better results.
• OD tries to integrate the organizational and the individual’s goals so as to increase organizational effectiveness.
